February 2008 - Animals, animals!

February 20, 2008

Hi there,

Are you keeping warm?  We learned about all sorts of animals last night and how they live and keep warm.  Thank you to Mrs Erickson for running the program.

We also have fruit sale information - orders have to be in the first week of March so I will be mailing those out to those few who did not attend.  I also have raffle ticket books and 4H are asking each family to sell 2 books of tickets for the carnival.

I have updated the website a bit so look around.

See you next Month!

 Anne

January 2007 meeting - the ice races!

January 16, 2007

Happy New Year everyone!  May 2007 be a fun and happy year where you will all make new friends and continue to grow our fledgling Cloverbud Club.

At this meeting, we had our first business meeting with the parents in one room and the kids and leaders in another.  I think the children had the most fun.  We also did our first service project - happy pictures for the "make a Child Smile" organiation.

Jena had prepared a lesson on Observation - what does that big word mean?  How do we apply it?  She had brought in ice cubes and the kids had to pay attention and note the features of an ice cube - the learned new words too!  Then they had to figure out the fastest way to melt it - one group used the heat vent on the floor and that worked well.  It was a good science lesson!

The adult's meeting was less thrilling but the club is at the stage where we can start doing more planning.  Some decisions made and actions taken include:

1.  Meetings will now be held in Mrs Nelson classroom (#102) at Lincoln Elementary school behind McDonalds.  With so many children,...

December Meeting - decorate and be creative

December 19, 2006

What a fun evening!  We had 2 craft activities to do and our snack was even full participation.

Our first craft activity was a wreath project with noodles and macaroni that we then painted.  It was interesting to learn out to glue down the various shapes and to use the different paint colors.

Then we made a hanging Santa that was fun to bounce around.  Both these crafts were organised by Jena and the participants responded well to the various challenges with the different materials.

Ginger made the snack - multi part cookies that everyone (adults too) could decorate and make into elves or Santa.  She had different frostings in bags so piping skills were learned and mastered.

The meeting was a huge hit and everyone had a great time!

We also had a larger than expected turnover which was fun.  It was nice to have siblings getting involved too.

Report on the November Cloverbud Buddies Meeting

November 30, 2006

Our second meeting since this Group's inception was held on November 28th, 2006 at 6h15pm at a leader's house.  We had 7 members, 3 leaders and 8 parents/visitors there.

A brief business meeting was held while the members worked on larger puzzles and colored.  Jena will be our Activity Leader and James will assist.  Beth offered help when needed.  Ginger will lead our Field Trip project and Beth will investigate a suitable Service Project for 5-7 year olds in our community.  Every family has been assigned a snack rotation.  Anne will act as meeting co-ordinator.  All the members introduced themselves and mentioned their favourite vegetable.

Our first demonstration by Anne was of the 4H Pledge.  The members had a 4H Pledge sheet to color and take home to better assist learning the Pledge.  That was a good "settling down" project while some adult leaders literally started cooking up the second project of the evening.

All kids learned to wash their hands before playing with their food - Rice Krispie Sculpture.  The results were inventive and varied - see our Photo Gallery for pics.  Some members viewed this Experiential Project with some nervousness but once they had their hands greased up...
